Sumatriptan is one of the drugs consumed to relieve the headache
caused due to migraine. The medication of this drug being very
powerful should be used as prescribed by the doctor. It is advisable
that the doses of this drug should not exceed from 200mg per day. If
the dose of Sumatriptan is taken more than this than it may lead to
a problem called as Sulfhemoglobinemia.
This is a very rare condition but very dangerous too. It can cause
the red colour of the blood to change to greenish-black in
colour.the reason for this change is integration of more amount of
sulfur than required in the hemoglobin molecules.
In the initial stages there are some side effects that are very
common to majority of people. This drug causes side effects like
flushing, dizziness, drowsiness and nausea. A feeling of weakness
from within, tingling, stiffness and fatigue are also some of the
common symptoms very unlikely to happen side effect is seizures.
Allergic reactions like rashes on the skin, itching and swelling of
the body parts can also take place. If ant trouble in breathing is
experienced the doctor should be consulted immediately.
The drug usage should be stopped if the side effects extend to the
chest pain or if sudden numbness in the limbs is felt. Other less
affecting but serious side effects of the drug are blurred vision,
state of confusion, agitation, hallucination and sudden or severe
stomach pain accompanied with diarrhea.
Less serious side effects can be the vomiting muscle pain, cough,
cold or congestion.
Side effects are the part of any drug and can be avoided or reduced
if the drug is taken with due care.
